The Chiwoko congregation is located in the city of
Lilongwe on the east side of town. Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi and
situated in the Central Region of the country 311 km north of Blantyre.
This was a very special meeting for all of these brethren. Old wounds had
healed, the Spirit of Christ prevailed, and we all drank, as it were, the
sweet nectar of fellowship! The singing on this occasion would have to be
included among the very best I have ever heard in Africa, if not the best!
Singing to the Africans is a way of expressing their innermost
feelings--and they do a lot of singing! These brethren were extremely
happy--and it showed. I do not recall brethren in an assembly anywhere
ever being more involved in their singing than that which took place on
this day. Neither do I recall ever having an audience who listened more
carefully to every word spoken during the sermon than these brethren.
Their attention made me feel that I had to do my very best in the
delivery. Davidson did a super job translating (and he always does!), not
only English into Chichewa, but the feelings and emotions as well which I
was interjecting into my presentation.
As you can see from the photo, we had a nice crowd gathered for the
occasion. We had 24 congregations represented from surrounding areas, and
20 preachers in attendance. This meeting for me will be included among the
unforgettable ones I have conducted in Africa. On the right side of the
photo in front on the outside is Margaret Kasambwe. Next to her is her
husband, Davidson. Next to Davidson, wearing a yellow shirt, is Brother
Foster Magwira, the preacher for Chiwoko.
