Of course, if a treadle pump is going to
work, it must have a source of water. As you can see, this is a
small pool which has been dug in the bed of a stream which does not
flow during the dry season. Even so, when water is not flowing above
ground, you usually can dig down to a level where underground water
can be found. During the dry
season in many areas of the country, people dig down in the dry
river beds to get their supply of water. This is the third picture.
