Dear brethren,

For the past several years, the congregation in Tyler, Texas, has hosted a very successful annual Young Speaker’s Meeting in May of each year and has arranged for the weekend services to be held at Pine Cove Retreat on the shores of Lake Palestine just west of Tyler. For a number of reasons, the leadership of the Tyler congregation has decided they will no longer be able to host this annual meeting. The leaders of the congregation in Athens, after much discussion and with the blessing of our Tyler brethren, have decided to host a meeting similar to the one conducted at Pine Cove, but in a different location that offers different amenities. The purpose of this letter is to share with interested brethren the details concerning the meeting and to encourage the members of your congregation to join us for what we believe will become a wonderful annual event.

First of all, the meeting will be conducted on the weekend of April 16 – 18. These dates were chosen so as not to conflict with other meetings in the Dallas – Ft. Worth Metroplex. Brother Cullen Smith has accepted our invitation to conduct the meeting. The theme for the meeting, which we hope will be especially helpful to our young people, is “Commitment to Christ Means…” Each topic will address a different aspect of the need to make a wholehearted commitment to our Savior and Lord.

We have made arrangements to reserve an entire campground (20 sites) inside beautiful Tyler State Park (Click on Map icon for directions and maps). Each camp site can comfortably accommodate a self-contained RV and two large tents, up to a maximum of ten campers per site. This will allow us to accommodate up to 200 overnight guests. The isolated section of the park offers a serene environment in which Christians can worship together, where the gospel can be preached and Christians can enjoy one another’s company in the outdoor setting provided by a camp meeting. We have also reserved a covered group picnic area in which to conduct the worship services in the event of mildly unfavorable weather. If the 3-day forecast calls for rain, the meeting will simply be moved to the Athens church building, and we will accommodate as many guests as we possibly can in our homes. The members of the Athens congregation, along with our brethren from Tyler, are eager to see this meeting grow and to fill the void left by the cancellation of the Tyler Young Speaker’s Meeting.

Click on the Reservation icon and fill out pertinent information on the Reservation Form. If you would like to attend this camp meeting and to stay with us in the park, please indicate so by completing the form and returning it to the address indicated, or you may phone or e-mail your information to us. We will confirm your reservation with a phone call, so please include your phone number. We are eager to answer any and all questions you may have, and to do whatever needs to be done to ensure this camp meeting is above reproach in every way and is a genuine blessing to all who attend. We encourage you to call one of us if you have any questions or if we can clarify anything for you. Our prayer is that God will bless your local congregation and all of your efforts for Truth.

By His grace,

Glenn Ballard
