NO TEARS IN HEAVEN
Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
While reading this verse, I began to think about the words “God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.” In my mind I could remember my mother taking me up into her arms when I would cry from any pain or anything that had caused me to cry, and she would hold me tenderly. With the tip of her finger she would wipe away the tears from my checks and then kiss the spot where the tears had been. With love and tenderness, she would then assure me that everything would be all right. I was in her care and protection. Nothing could harm me while there.
How wonderful to know that our God, one day, will take us tenderly into his arms and wipe away those tears which we have shed throughout the years. As He removes those tears we shall hear Him say that those tears will no longer bother us. What caused us to shed those tears will no longer be there to harm us again. In His tender arms we find eternal safety from those things that cause us to shed tears. No more sorrow, pain or suffering for those who rest in His arms.
Such a promise left to us is beyond comprehension. It is beyond human ability to conceive of a place where tears will not be found. A place where we shall be protected from memories that would haunt or hurt us. A place where we have eternal peace and comfort. In this flesh we are constantly reminded of the pain and sorrow that we have felt or experienced. We cannot find comfort from such things. In Christ, we have the hope that, one day, in Him we shall have our tears wiped away.
In this life we have sorrow and tears
We cannot find comfort from our fears
Yet in our mother’s arms and her tender embrace
Our tears she wiped away with her finger of grace
With words of comfort she sheltered us from the harm
And assured us that there was no longer any alarm
For she would protect us in her loving arms.
In this life we shed many tears out of sorrow and fear
Yet God has promised that He shall wipe away those tears
Where in His eternal kingdom no sorrow will arise
To cause a reddening swelling in our eyes
With His finger of love
Those tears will be wiped away in heaven above
And they shall never again be remembered. (Lonnie K. York, 1/1/96)
